Our
most important asset in archery, just as in life, is our youth.
USA Archery's J.O.A.D. (Junior Olympic Archery Development) program
promotes the sport of archery with young people. It stresses
getting a bow in hand quickly, yet doing so safely, and focuses on the
positive aspects of the sport. The
USA
's last Olympic Gold Medal archer started out as a J.O.A.D. archer.
While the Olympic effort is important, it is far more important that
archery be a fun and positive experience so that the young athlete will
continue to enjoy the sport throughout life. The J.O.A.D. coach
knows this and strives to promote success and a positive attitude

The
J.O.A.D. program provides archery instruction and competition for young
archers across the
United States
. Through the J.O.A.D. Olympian Awards program, these athletes can earn
incentives as they develop and improve their skills up the ranks of
Yeoman, Jr. Bowman, Bowman, Junior Archer, Archer, Master Archer, Expert
Archer, Olympian, Silver Olympian and Gold Olympian. The JOAD
Division Calculator will assist you with determining your
Competitive level. The S.T.P. (or Senior Training Program) is offered
for those over the age of 18.

Saddleback
Archery's very successful J.O.A.D./S.T.P program:
The Saddleback
Archery JOAD consists of four divisions:
|
Beginner
|
Everyone enters our program at this level.
In these classes, we will teach the basics of the sport. Our
primary objective is to teach “good basic skills” and to have
some fun. “Good basic skills” and fun provide the foundation
to make archery a life-long sport be it for recreation or
competitive.
We start each archer using just the basic
equipment. This enables both the archer and coach to focus solely
on the basics. Quite often, it will take 1 – 2 sessions before
an archer feels comfortable using the basic equipment. Every
archer progresses at a different pace. Our coaches have been very
successful at determining when an archer is ready to advance to
the next level of instruction.
|
|
Intermediate
|
After the basics have been mastered, they
must be “fine tuned”. The Intermediate class is designed to
take an archer to the next level by refining the form.
As archers progress, sights, finger slings
and additional “competitive” equipment will be introduced.
Each of these equipment enhancements will require additional focus
by the archer to master.
Many archers in this program will begin to
compete at local and regional tournaments.
|
|
Advanced
|
For those wishing to achieve a competitive
edge, the Advanced program is for you. In this program, we
continue to refine the form using even more intense and advanced
coaching techniques. Archers
in this program will generally compete at local, regional and
national levels.
